The usual.

My past weekend was pretty awesome. I had to work Saturday morning, but I suppose the rest of the time made up for it.

Liz and I spent some time at the mall (well, 3 trips worth actually), mostly because Saturday was busy as hell there during the day and after we saw Roller Derby downtown we decided to catch Tropic Thunder. Awesome movie. I wasn’t expecting much out of it, so I was thoroughly pleased. Most comedies these days are just filled with stupid toilet humor, not really my bag. TT was done really well though.

We also had a meal at the awesome Vegan restaurant downtown, where I proceeded to make fun of the PETA flyers they had there. Ever wonder why all their photos are taken in the middle of the night? Maybe it’s because they break into farms illegally and then doctor them up afterwards? Maybe one should take into account that PETA kills more animals than it adopts out. I’m sorry, but animal rights activists amuse me greatly.

Sunday we went back to the mall to finish up some shopping since Saturday was way too effin’ busy, and then went for a walk in the park. The weather was absolutely beautiful for it. Headed back to the apartment and laid back watching Hot Fuzz which was absolutely amazing. Can’t believe it took me this long to see it. And I’m sure demi’s going to kill me for that statement :P

Came home from work today to see my sister making margaritas. Since my mother claims they’re “too strong” I now have two of them.

Trying to spend my spare time doing more productive things, since I’m working 10 hour days and I don’t get much free time to myself. I updated my ROM site with an updated MAME set and I’m hard at work at fixing the GBA ROMs. It’s just time-consuming. Still looking for a host that offers 100mbit unmetered at a decent price. School’s keeping me busy still, too.

Here’s what’s up.

I had an awesome weekend with Liz. The Ren fest was tons of fun. BBQ turkey drumstick = love. Also did some more shopping, got a few shirts and a new wallet since mine has all but fallen apart.

Black Mask is one of Jet Li’s most hilarious movies ever. The plot was horrendous and the action was great.

I got my MP3 player in the mail, a 20 gig Dell DJ. Bought it for $60 shipped from the Creative website. It’s refurbished but looks and plays like new. They even gave me a friendly reminder:

OK OK, I won’t steal. But what if my MP3 player came with music already? Am I obligated to delete it?

Only a few tracks, but I’m not sure how this slipped out of the refurbishing warehouse without its drive getting scrubbed.

I’m gonna load this baby up with music for work and get all my homework done for the week. I’m sick of waiting until Friday to do it all and I’m surprisingly energetic right now. May as well put it to good use.

Lovin’ this laptop.

Ubuntu installed with minor hitches, the wireless card wasn’t working at first but after downloading updates the driver was picked up automatically and now works like a charm.

Installed VirtualBox, and put a copy of XP inside it with a copy of Office. Now I can do my schoolwork from my laptop without needing to VNC to my Windows box. My online classes are weird and nothing works right in Firefox. I didn’t want to try and Wine a copy of IE either. Office 2003 wasn’t working last I tried, maybe it’s been fixed since 1.0? Either way, Office and IE are a must for my classes.

720p x264 files play beautifully. The quality is amazing. Downloaded a sample of Matrix Revolutions to make sure. Didn’t feel like wasting time on a 4 gig mkv to find out it would be choppy.

Just need an external HDD enclosure and I have to shuffle some data around, and I’ll be set. Probably getting one this weekend.

In other news, I’m working 10 hour shifts all next week. 6-4:30. Not really looking forward to it.

Pretty awesome specs here.

AMD Turion64x2 TL-58 (1.9ghz)
2GB DDR RAM
NVidia 7000M integrated
120GB HDD
DVD-DL Burner
Web camera
S/PDIF, S-Video, VGA output (boo no DVI, but I’ll survive)
Firewire port
4x USB 2.0

Vista’s installed but I’m removing it for Ubuntu. Just reading up on some forums to see if there are any hurdles to come across.

Stupid headaches.

My headaches have progressively been getting worse, and I’m not sure when they’ll stop. I took two Tylenol PM last night before I went to bed, and got a full 8 hours of sleep. By 10am today my head was hurting again, and at lunch I took 2 Excedrin. It’s now 6:30pm and my head is still hurting, and I’m not about ready to take more drugs and repeat the process.

Hopefully by tomorrow I’ll have a doctor’s appointment scheduled. I haven’t been to a doctor in quite some time, probably a couple years at least. I really don’t get sick, and if I do it’s pretty mild. This is something else though, I’m almost sure of. I wear glasses when I’m at a computer, I stay hydrated, I don’t have crappy diet, and I’m not really overweight (although the internet tells me I’m one cheeseburger away from being obese).

Here’s to hoping it’s nothing serious.

Well that was an awesome tournament.

Syracuse tournament this past weekend was epic. Seriously, it was. Tons of people showed up from all over upstate to hang out and have a great time. The tournament was ran without a hitch (aside from the right pad going bad during qualifying, but Adamn and I fixed it), and the afterparty at Tully’s was nothing less than spectacular. I was unfortunately part cranky and part hopped up on Starbucks most of the day due to a lack of sleep the night before, but I was still loving every moment of the day. Krystal and Aimee tagged me in a crapload of photos on Facebook so check them out. The entire day was so memorable I wish stuff like that could happen more often. It really brought things back to an earlier time when people actually played the game for fun and tournaments weren’t about who had the better scores, but just seeing friends and having a good time. Also, I don’t think anyone was leeching mall wifi or running to the Apple store to check each other’s Recall. Might have something to do with SN score tracking not being there, but that’s besides the point :P

Sunday Liz and I went to her cousin’s graduation party back out in Cooperstown, and on the way home I took a different route. Unfortunately the route I took wasn’t going in the direction I thought it would and we ended up getting home a lot later than we should’ve, but I’m a guy and I don’t want to listen to women when it comes to directions. If it’s of any consolation, though, I did end up listening to Liz :)

I really need to keep myself more occupied during the week when I’m not at work. I’ve wasted too many afternoons and nights doing absolutely nothing of value, nothing productive. I putz around on the internet, maybe watch a movie, and that’s about it. I can get almost all my homework done in a single night within a couple hours, so that doesn’t really take up much of my time. Alex is back home and free, I really should spend more time hanging out with him. It was just like old times seeing him this weekend.

I’ve all but given up caffeine. I’ll sometimes drink a cup of coffee at work, and go for Starbucks on the weekends, but aside from that it’s pretty much out of my system completely.. Soda is also completely out of my diet. Now if only my headaches would go away.

Been a while.

Busy as ever with things not related to the internet so I haven’t really had a chance to give a real update. Oh well.

Liz and I went furniture shopping on Saturday and got a boatload of stuff. Set of 4 chairs for the kitchen, entertainment stand for the living room, and a boxspring & frame for the bedroom. Including the rental van, it cost maybe $500 in total. Not bad for all the stuff we got! Spent some time at the mall, then headed back home to organize everything. Had a fat kids night and splurged on pizza, ice cream, and baked pretzels while watching War. Surprisingly good considering I hadn’t even heard of it before. Can’t go wrong with Jason Statham and Jet Li together.

Slept in ultra late on Sunday – I blame the bed being even more comfortable now than ever – and just hung around the apartment for a few hours. I had to head home for Father’s Day shenanigans and Liz drove home to be with her family. Thanks to sleeping in late I didn’t get to bed until almost 1AM – but I woke up still feeling pretty refreshed.

Work was pretty good today. Last week, albeit being a productive one, was just bad for me. Sometimes all you need is a fresh start to get things going on the right foot, and today was definitely that.

Heading back to Liz’s parents this weekend for her brother’s graduation party, and next weekend is the huge Syracuse reunion tournament. Doesn’t give us much time to get the apartment in order since company’s staying with us during the tournament, but I’m sure we’ll be able to pull it all off.

I probably should work on some homework, so off I go.

Insane thunderstorm last night.

We had one hell of a downpour in the middle of the night, causing me to wake up not once but twice to reset my alarm.

I woke up late because I definitely didn’t get any quality sleep. When I got into work, the entire warehouse had no lights and none of the computers in the production area would turn on. Resetting the breakers didn’t fix any of it, either. Since there wasn’t a quick fix to get everyone up and running, they sent us home. Hopefully with pay, they didn’t specify.

Spending the weekend with Liz, going to be great as usual. We’re planning on rearranging the apartment and cooking some fancy shmancy dinners. Good times.

Procrastinating from homework.

Weekend was pretty awesome. Got my cellphone finally, an LG enV2. I’m a big fan of it, it does what I need it to do. The keypad works great, call quality is awesome, and it’s nothing too big either. I get a free month of internet with it too so I’ve been toying around with that. Gmail and LJ mobile work great, though I can’t log into Facebook because of the server certificates. Probably due to HTTPS or something, I need to read up and figure out what’s causing it.

Friday night I spent the majority of the night doing homework, and got nearly all of it done (hence the procrastinating right now). Only a couple essays to write and I’m free for a couple days. Liz came home a little after midnight and we just hung around, I think? Either my memory is going to crap or that’s really what we did. There was just so much that went on over the weekend it’s really a blur.

Saturday we hung out with Liz’s friend Morgan. It’s fun hanging out with people because usually we’re on our own all weekend long. I’ve really distanced myself from a lot of people here locally (work and school really eats up all my time) and Liz doesn’t know many people in the area outside of work. So we went shopping around Carousel, where I got some clothes and Morgan proceeded to ogle my butt (apparently it’s cute). I got my phone as stated, from the Verizon store. Also bought a book at Borders. 37 of Sherlock Holmes novels with original illustrations, for $7. Quite the steal. Afterwards, we headed out to some other stores around town. We all headed back to the apartment, ordered pizza, and proceeded to laugh and question the plotholes of Uwe Bolle’s masterpiece House of the Dead. I’m a fan of bad horror movies, but that one’s cutting it close. Afterwards we made a Wegmans run for some gummy fruit (Liz’s favorite) and breakfast foods for the morning.

Today we slept in – seemingly typical for us on Sundays it seems – then went out to the boulevard for some more errands. Liz got herself an awesome fishtank at the pet store in Shoppingtown. The clerk at the desk was extremely shady and shaved a ton of money off the price of it provided we didn’t take the receipt. 28 gallon tank with a bowed front, and the whole kit of extras that goes with it, for only $65? alright, sure! Headed to a Petco afterwards so Liz could get some more accessories for the tank, and to Marshalls where I got a sweet deal on some running sneakers for $30. I wanted to get back into running but my casual sneakers are definitely not the type to go running in.

Had dinner at Kirby’s, forgetting that there’s a serious lack of vegetarian items on the menu for Liz. I’m going to remember that from now on. I wanted Thai so badly but the local Thai place is closed until June. No fun.

Came back to the apartment and set up the fish tank. It was quite the process getting it all set up but all that’s left is for the water to filter itself and drop the fish in :) Unfortunately I had to leave after that since I have silly homework to complete. Ah well. We both get Memorial Day off next week so we’re definitely looking forward to that.
