Losing a bit of faith in Ebay.

I’ve been Ebaying stuff lately, with decent results. But there’s still a couple orders that have ticked me off a tad.

I bought DK Racing on the 18th, and have yet to receive it. Now, I ordered a TON of other N64 stuff the same day, and it’s all come in. In fact, the last thing to come in was my Goldeneye cart, which arrived almost a week ago. I don’t think it takes this long to ship a cart from CA, does it?

I also bought Liz’s laptop (a Dell Inspiron 600m) a gig of RAM, because it only has 512 in it. I found an Ebayer selling RAM for the model, has a 99.whatever% feedback. Page listed the specs for the RAM. I checked the current RAM in the laptop before buying, and the numbers matched – PC2700, CL2.5. Upon receiving the RAM, what’s it say on the stickers? PC3200, CL3. Sorry folks, but you can’t put 3v RAM into a 2.5v slot. It just doesn’t work. I’m asking for an exchange on that.

Aside from that, work’s been going pretty good. Chris + I had to train some new people today. Although every time they have us do other things our numbers drop, they fully appreciate our skill and ability to teach others. The company owner is coming in tomorrow to inspect the place so the bosses are stressing a tad. I don’t mind it, I’m confident in what I do and the bosses have confidence in me.

We also get free movies at work. You’d be surprised what people leave in their DVD drives when they return their computers. Today alone I came across the third Pirates movie, the third LOTR movie, and The Illusionist. We’ve gotten some other weird stuff too, and yes people have returned their laptops with a porno in the DVD drive. That was a funny one. I was driving home one day after work and my coworker Aaron passes me on the right flashing that DVD in the window, I couldn’t help but to laugh. The next day he barely made it in to work on time, to which I responded “Oh that movie kept you up all night, eh?”

We got our hands on a set of speakers so we can stream internet radio from our station. We can never decide what to listen to, because internet radio has such broad selection. 90s dance plays a lot of unknown club hits, The 80s station plays a lot of sappy love songs, and 90s rock plays too much grunge. Though I did get to Rickroll everyone while the 80s station was playing. That was epic.

I’m really looking forward to the weekend, I can’t wait to hang out with everyone at AG again.

Good people, good times.

I’ve been really enjoying work these past few weeks. Although the job is pretty mundane, the characters I work with are quite awesome and really make it more than just a typical job. When you’re in a somewhat enclosed area with the freedom to talk with each other freely, the time passes quickly. We all crack jokes at each other, talk about everything under the sun, and at the same time get compliments from management for doing a great job. We can wear whatever clothes we want, and listen to music via headphones or speakers hooked up to our stations (as long as it’s nothing too loud or offensive). I’m near the top in my department for numbers and today I got to audit everyone with my friend/coworker Chris to ensure they were doing everything by the books. Handed out suggestions to them to help them raise their numbers, which nearly all of them had appreciated.

Last weekend was spent with Liz, as usual. Running errands during the day mostly. Saturday night we made a pizza, watched the Goonies, and dyed our hair. I’m now a redhead.

Sunday night was the Oscars so we hung out and watched them, until I got too tired to stay awake and headed home. Lucky for her she doesn’t have to be to work at 7:30 in the morning… silly second shift.

My nights have been occupied with Mario 64, so far it’s the only N64 game to come in the mail since I ordered them all off of Ebay. I got my second controller though, and the expansion pak… not exactly needed right now.

Not sure what’s on the plate for this weekend. Liz is gone on Saturday night so we’re only hanging out part of that day, and maybe on Sunday. I’ll probably just do my homework to pass the time.

Jobspam.

I started my new job today. It’s nothing too difficult, pays as much as I was getting paid before, and there’s a lot of room to move up.

My responsibilities are very simple and straightforward. While the job is seemingly repetitive, and I have to stand the entire time, I really don’t mind it. I get a line of 4 Acer laptops that customers have shipped back for whatever reason, test a few things, recover it to its system defaults, and move onto the next batch. The only thing that really slows the process down is that these are all laptops that run Vista. Most of them weren’t even used by the customer for a week when they were sent back, some were never even turned on for whatever reason. So when turning the laptops on there’s all the trial software that loads, Windows bitches about security settings, and a few other pop-ups that obviously slow the booting process. Testing the laptops works like this:

-Reset the bios to defaults, enable the boot menu
-Boot from a CD to reset all passwords
-Boot PC normally, log into Administrator account
-Format the D: drive (Acer laptops use that as a DATA drive, where user data is stored)
-Check the webcam (if present) to make sure it works
-Check all the USB ports, just plug in a flash drive
-Open the device manager to see if there’s any bad hardware
-Reboot with factory restore CD

That’s pretty much the process for these, we’re expected to do like 60 a day and it’s quite easy to obtain. And if there’s any part of the process that fails, we just mark it with the problem and put it in a separate pile, let the repair guys deal with it. It’s no longer our issue.

There’s a chance to move around too, like I can move over to repair if I get sick of testing, or work in the warehouse section boxing or unboxing the PCs. And there may be a 2nd shift starting, which I would definitely jump on.

So I’m pretty content with this. Not to mention the dress code is 100% casual. Score.

Holiday wrap-up.

So I suppose I should make mention first that it’s been quite some time that I’ve posted in my real blog, most of my posts have been going to LJ. I try to keep this place a bit more “formal” than my free-form posts in LJ.

I spent a week out of town for work, in Chicago and then driving through IN to Cleveland, IL. When I was done in Cleveland, I drove back to Chicago and flew home. Aside from the bad weather during the tail-end of being in Cleveland, I had a pretty good time overall. I got to hang out with Phuzion when I was in Cleveland, and AJ when I was in Chicago. It was definitely one of those opportunities that don’t come around very often so I had to take advantage of them when they arose.

Couple days in the office, then Christmas came. Not nearly as stressful as usual, though some stresses are always bound to happen. That’s what you get when both your parents are born on Christmas day. At any rate, I made out pretty good with a lot of necessities, moreso than things I just “wanted” – ink for my printer, an electric shaver, clothes, and other miscellaneous things. I got my mom a new computer which she was totally ecstatic about. Installed a bunch of her much-loved Adobe apps (CS3 is an amazing suite) and she was good to go. I got a steal on the box too.

I’ve been so extremely happy with Liz, she’s definitely a keeper. We exchanged gifts before she left for her parents’ for the holidays and I got lots of cute kiwi-related items. I got her this really awesome lamp that’s shaped like a Chinese takeout box that we saw in a store when she first moved into town, I knew she wanted it. I got the last one in stock, too. Score. The weekend before I left for out-of-town work I spent at her parents’ house with her, too. I beat everyone at Scrabble, oops. I felt kinda bad about that. I got to see her tonight too after all the festivities ended here. Can’t think of a better way to end the holiday.

I have the day off from work so I’m going to hit up a couple stores for after-Christmas sales hopefully. Can’t go wrong with a 2-day work week.

Update update!

Work: Lots of sitting on the phone playing tech support. Not exactly what I signed up for, but it’s a job and it pays well enough. I’m sure things will change soon. Lately it’s just been a few outstanding issues that will be taken care of within the week so after that it’s on to bigger and better things.

Home: Still living in the basement for another few weeks while my grandmother is nursed back to health. I like it down here, more room, more privacy, just more relaxing.

Social:

Partying at Kait’s is a lot of fun.

TGIF.

I’m so glad it’s the weekend. It’s been a really long week for me, and for some reason I haven’t been able to get a good night’s sleep since I came back from FL. Not sure if it’s me sleeping in a different room (I’m back in the basement again), having an actual 9-5 desk job, or remnants of personal stuff I’ve had to deal with.

Last night after I got out of work, I literally came home, ate dinner, and passed out until morning. And I still didn’t wake up feeling really refreshed. Not sure what’s going on with my body, but I hope I can get used to this schedule soon. At least I’m waking up to eat breakfast in the morning, haven’t done that since, oh, elementary school?

Thankfully, today we were out in the field doing work, much more interesting than sitting at the office doing phone support and entering data into a spreadsheet. Boss is out of town all next week too, so it’ll be interesting to see how everything plays out. One of the projects we have is that we get to shoot a 50 megabit fiber connection 10-20 miles via radio towers. That’s going to be an interesting project.

Don’t really have any plans for the weekend. Not really complaining, I’ve been dying to finish beating Earthbound (apparently I’m pretty close) and I’ll probably spend some time at the arcade. I miss playing DDR for hours on end.

Life’s going a million miles an hour.

For the next 3 days, I’ll be cleaning up the basement and moving my stuff down here. My grandmother took a bad fall and she has to move back in with us (this happened once before). Since my room is on the ground floor, she takes it. And I move to the basement. The basement is pretty well furnished, I don’t mind being in it at all. It’s got more room, more privacy, and more stuff. Like a bigger TV, and my surround-sound speaker system.

On Tuesday, I start my first day of work at my new job. On Wednesday the 5th, my second day, I’m flying out to Vegas for said job. I’ll be then flying to San Diego soon after, and then back home to Syracuse on the 12th.

On the 13th, I fly back out again, down to Tampa for a week-long vacation. I won’t have much time at home, probably enough to do laundry and catch a few hours of sleep.

Needless to say I’m going to be hard to get a hold of for the next couple weeks. If you got anything important to tell me, you might want to do it soon.

Change in plans.

Guess I can’t work at the fair, some sort of “conflict of interest” since I’m still a student and using federal workstudy money to technically advertise for the school is a no-no. So instead I’ll just work at the school for the last two weeks, doing whatever needs to be done. Not complaining at all, I’m used to this sort of work during vacation. And now I don’t have to deal with the hassle of paying for parking everyday.

Job interview on Wednesday, crossing my fingers for something good…

I have my work cut out for me.

Looks like I get to work at the fair this year, sitting at the ITT Tech booth talking to people, handing out informational pamphlets, and getting paid for it. I’ll do that for almost two weeks, sure. Easiest $600 of my life right there.

Graduation in less than two weeks, kinda scary. I Figure if I can’t get a better job between now and the middle of next month I’ll just go back to Wegmans where I know I can shoe myself back to where I was before, with awesome pay and awesome people. I’ll always be looking around for a better place, though.

Been playing through Earthbound all weekend, it’s a nice way to kick back and relax. Great game. Between that and working out, it’s a decent way to spend my spare time. My huge side project is taking shape too, creating a huge-ass Bemani wiki with game info up the wazoo. I know RemyWiki is big, but I’m focusing on everything, not just IIDX. With huge-ass articles like this I’m pretty happy with how things are coming along. (Yes, I compiled that entire article and formatted it on my own).

My vacation can’t come any quicker, though…
