Yeah yeah yeah, lack of updates.
Past couple weeks have been a flurry of excitement. For New Year’s I went out to Kait’s apartment in Oswego and partied. Hard. It was good times. Lots of beer pong, king’s cup, and overall drunken craziness. Kait kept feeding me Jello shots, and I kept chugging away at the mixed drinks. Of course I never ended up with a hangover in the morning though. Oh how I love being Irish.
Last weekend was even crazier. Jarred, Shelly, and I went out to Boston for the weekend to visit their friend (and I suppose mine now too) Risa. We all went out to the New England Aquarium where they had lots and lots of PENGUINS. I was in heaven. I didn’t want to leave that place. And the sheer amount of fish they have there is amazing. The tank is one big cylinder and you walk around it in a spiral fashion until you get to the top. It was so awesome. Afterwards we caught dinner at an Italian pizza shop and headed out back towards the aquarium and saw Happy Feet in IMAX glory. Oh my God, watching movies elsewhere feels like nothing compared to this theater. I was absolutely blown away.
But that was just Friday. Saturday we went to the Boston Museum of Science. That place is crazy. Tons of stuff there. Saw a laser light show done to the tune of Led Zepplin hits, a movie about thrill seekers in the 180-degree IMAX OmniTheater, and a really nifty movie about finding life outside of Earth and comparing it to the worlds seen in the Star Wars movies. Once again, blown away. Especially when they created a man-made lightning storm from the world’s largest Van De Graff generator. Saturday night was spent out at Tokyo Game Action where I could meet up with all my favorite Bemani nerds and make fun of Anthony for putting wax paper in the oven, which proceeded to make the place smell like it was on fire. We bowled a few, played some video games, and just had a good time there.
Sunday was a lazy day, and the drive back home. The weather was on our side for the weekend, that was for sure. Nearly 70 degrees it hit, and we definitely weren’t complaining.
In between all the craziness on the weekends, I’ve been keeping occupied with school and work mostly. In fact on Tuesday I spent nearly the entire shift teaching, it was so much fun. I was a teacher’s assistant for a couple hours in one classroom helping kids with Visual Basic, and then I was reviewing math in one of the theory rooms with a couple kids utilizing the white board. I think I’m going to be doing the same thing every Tuesday, while balancing the rest of my hours working with the oh-so-kickass network administrator. They’re hiring more workstudy help too, so I finally won’t be bouncing around between 10 places at once – though I do enjoy the multitasking portion of my job, it can get a bit overwhelming at times; especially when people ask me to do things and I can’t always complete them in a timely fashion because 3 other people assigned me something.
And to top all that off, I’m running a private Ragnarok Online server from my desktop, and I’m surprised at how well it’s been going so far. I play from the basement without any issues, and for being less than a week old there’s already a good amount of people who’ve signed up within Bemaniso that have been enjoying it greatly. It was originally going to be on bandwidthmonkey, but the server being x64 and the game requiring a 32-bit environment caused problems. My gracious server admin Moo has offered to give me a fix, but I’m in no hurry really. He offers me the server as a service and I’m not going to push him about it. I’m grateful for what I get.
As a last note, the photos from New Years and Boston are in the gallery so make sure you go check them out.
